Rules checked 27 October 2026. Flights: Regulation (EC) 261/2004 (€250 / €400 / €600, 3-hour arrival delay). A reform agreed in June 2026 keeps those amounts and the 3-hour threshold and adds a 9-month claim deadline once it applies; until then, claim deadlines are set by national law and vary by country. Trains: Regulation (EU) 2021/782, in force since 7 June 2023 (25% of the fare for 60–119 minutes, 50% for 120+, no payment under €4; operators are exempt for extreme weather, natural disasters, public health crises and some third-party causes, but staff strikes still count). Some countries exempt local and regional services. This page gives general information, not legal advice. UK flights follow a separate UK version of the rules with amounts in pounds.
